EORI number
An EORI number is a unique ID that businesses need to import or export goods; UK traders need a GB EORI to clear goods through customs.

An EORI (Economic Operators Registration and Identification) number is a unique reference used to identify businesses in customs procedures. Any business importing or exporting goods needs one, and it appears on customs declarations to link the movement to the trader.
To import goods into Great Britain you need a GB EORI number, which starts with 'GB'. Businesses moving goods to or from Northern Ireland may also need an XI EORI. UK VAT-registered businesses usually have their EORI linked to their VAT number.
Without a valid EORI, your goods cannot be cleared — declarations will be rejected and the consignment held. It is a one-time registration, quick to obtain, but essential to have in place before your first shipment arrives.
How it affects your landed cost
An EORI number is not itself a cost, but not having one is: goods stuck at the border because the importer is not registered accrue storage and demurrage while you sort it out. Getting the EORI in place before you ship keeps those avoidable charges out of your landed cost — the delay costs our calculator helps you avoid by planning clearance properly.
